Claudia Rojas poet

Claudia Rojas is a poeta and community advocate. She was born in El Salvador, raised in the Washington, DC area, and lives in Falls Church, VA. As educator, Claudia has taught reading and creative writing to children and young adults in academic and community settings. She was Split This Rock’s 2019 Youth Programs Fellow and participated in Rising Organizers’ 2021 Fellowship. She is currently the Communications Associate for New Virginia Majority, where she secures press coverage and public awareness on social justice issues.

  • Bachelor’s in English from George Mason University.
  • Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from University of Maryland.

Mood: chatty! Walk with me to the library on a high 70s °F morning! I’ll tell you about my new glasses and moving this week. Share in the comments where I can find matching clip-on sunglasses frames for glasses. Last year on April 13th, I had emergency surgery to remove my appendix and a small cyst. I felt so much discomfort & pain being in my body afterwards, especially because of the drainage tube. One of the things that saddened me during that month was missing out on National Poetry Month. I also remember the ache in my heart watching spring pass from my windows. I am grateful this year in April I’ve seen blooms up close and got to read poetry during a work meeting. 🙃#nationalpoetrymonth Solar eclipse fashion from yesterday. Currently at the eye doctor for my annual eye check up. Always excited because I get to choose new frames next—I’ve tried pink, clear, black, reds, lavender, teal, this glitter one… might stick with glitter?✨🤔 Spring showers & blooms & National Poetry Month! Taking these flowers into the office this morning and reading some poems at next week’s All Staff meeting. 😌 I live with anticipatory anxiety, but I am learning that worrying about all that can go wrong does not control the future. Instead, the anxiety keeps me from being witness to my life and from being present for the people I most love. Extending the shelf life of a flower arrangement. Roses and peonies are the first to wilt. #flowers #spring #positivevibes “There is no thing as a single-issue struggle because we do not live single-issue lives.” Trying out a mystery date with a book! Thank you @fairfaxlibrary for the Valentine’s love! January marked 8 months caring after Kai, my foster grandpa cat. I made the decision to transfer him to another caretaker, a decision rooted in self care. Kai is a handful due to his many illnesses, and I've been operating at the frequency of a mean depression and a deep injustice against my little brother. I am on medication, and honestly, I needed it earlier. Mental health is illness and it necessitates specific treatment.
